Seminar from Prof. Jing Xiao
Published:
We were honored to host Prof. Jing Xiao, William B. Smith Professor and Head of the Robotics Engineering Department at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI), for her seminar: “Adaptive Robotic Systems in Unknown and Uncertain Environments”
Prof. Xiao shared her research on robotic systems that can operate under uncertainty by tightly coupling perception and motion in real time. Her talk covered recent progress in online autonomous perception, planning, learning, and robot motion for challenging manipulation tasks, including contact-rich assembly, dense packing, deformable object manipulation, and physical parameter estimation. The seminar also highlighted broader directions in adaptive robotics, including semantic object search and visual coverage of large unknown structures.
We sincerely thank Prof. Xiao for her insightful talk and everyone who joined the discussion on perception-guided manipulation, adaptive robotic systems, and robotics in uncertain environments.
